What We Take and What We Can't
Wondering if Bangor Junk Hauling will haul that thing in your garage? Here is the honest list of what goes on the truck and the handful of items that need a different home.
If two people can carry it and it isn't hazardous, we'll take it. That covers furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronics, exercise gear, yard junk, renovation debris, and the clutter packed into your garage, basement, and attic. The short list of no's is the dangerous stuff like wet paint, chemicals, propane tanks, and asbestos. Not sure? Call or email and ask.
Furniture, mattresses, and everyday household junk
This is the bread and butter of what we haul. Couches, sectionals, recliners, dressers, bed frames, and any other furniture that has worn out its welcome. We grab it from any room in the house and carry it out ourselves, so you don't have to drag it to the curb first.
Mattresses and box springs go too. Same with the general household trash that piles up after a big cleanout. If it's filling space you'd rather have back, point at it and it's gone.
Appliances, electronics, and e-waste
We take the big appliances most people dread moving. Fridges, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, water heaters, and AC units all come off the truck list and onto ours. Refrigerators and freezers get handled so the Freon is dealt with the right way, not just dumped.
On the electronics side, we haul TVs, computers, printers, and the rest of the e-waste drawer. Old electronics get sent to be recycled rather than buried, because there is a proper stream for that stuff and we use it.
Yard, garage, basement, and renovation debris
Outdoor junk is fair game. Grills, patio sets, swing sets, trampolines, above-ground pools, sheds, and hot tubs all get broken down and hauled away. Exercise equipment counts here too, like treadmills and weight sets that ate your spare room.
We also clear renovation and construction debris. Drywall, decking, flooring, cabinets, and old fixtures from a remodel or tear-out. And when a garage, basement, or attic has been collecting clutter for years, we'll empty the whole thing. We handle hoarding cleanouts and full estate contents with the patience those jobs need.
What we can't take, and where to send it
A few things are off-limits, and it isn't us being picky. These items need special licensed disposal, and putting them on a regular truck would be unsafe and against the rules. We can't take wet or liquid paint, household chemicals, solvents, pesticides, asbestos, propane tanks or other pressurized cylinders, motor oil and automotive fluids, medical or biohazard waste, or ammunition and explosives.
Here is what to do instead. For paint, chemicals, and pesticides, check Maine DEP and your town's household hazardous waste collection days. Propane tanks usually go back to the retailer or a swap location. Motor oil can go to many auto parts stores. If you're stuck figuring out where something belongs, call or email us and we'll point you toward the right local resource.
Items we take but handle a certain way
Some things are perfectly fine for us to haul, they just follow a specific path once they leave your place. Refrigerators and freezers get their Freon handled properly before disposal. Mattresses go into a recycling stream instead of straight to the landfill.
Tires and electronics are the same story. Both get recycled through the proper channels rather than dumped. You don't have to sort any of this out. We know which items need which route and we take care of it on our end.
We donate and recycle first, landfill last
When something still has life left in it, it shouldn't end up in a hole in the ground. We try to donate usable furniture and goods, and we recycle metal, electronics, and other materials wherever there's a place for them. The landfill is the last stop, not the first.
That means a chunk of what we load up never becomes trash at all. You get your space back, and the stuff that can be reused goes to someone who needs it.
Common questions
What does junk removal actually take?
Just about anything two people can carry that isn't hazardous. Furniture, mattresses, appliances, electronics, exercise equipment, yard items, renovation debris, and general household clutter from any room, including the garage, basement, and attic.
Will you take my old fridge or freezer?
Yes. We haul fridges, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, water heaters, and AC units. Refrigerators and freezers get their Freon handled the right way as part of disposal.
What can't you take?
Hazardous material that needs licensed disposal. That's wet or liquid paint, household chemicals, solvents, pesticides, asbestos, propane and other pressurized tanks, motor oil and automotive fluids, medical or biohazard waste, and ammunition or explosives.
What do I do with paint or propane tanks if you won't take them?
Paint and chemicals go to Maine DEP guidance or your town's household hazardous waste collection days. Propane tanks usually go back to the retailer or a swap spot. Call or email us and we'll help you find the right place.
I'm not sure if my item is allowed. What should I do?
Just ask. Call or email us with what you've got and we'll tell you straight whether it goes on the truck or needs a different home. There's no guessing required on your end.
